Hi, Is this gutter set up correctly and what issues are likely to arise. How to close the gaps at the top edge of the gutter and brick wall.
Hello @sred
Thanks for sharing your question about your box gutter. Can you please tell us if the box gutter is loose? Does it have holes on the side for mounting onto the brick wall? Where does it drain to and are there any other gutters linked to it? Some of the issues that come to mind are possible water leaks in the assembly and if left open the large gap will be an invitation for vermin to come in and set up nests.
Can I also please request for a slightly wider shot of the box gutter's location? This will give our members a better idea of its location and how its set-up.
If you have any other questions we can help with, please let us know.
Eric
Thanks Eric. Attached an image taken from first floor window, so not very clear. The gutter is not accessible so unable to check it.
Hello @sred
Thank you for posting that extra photo of your box gutter. Everything appears to be in order as I don't see any loose connections or screws that have pulled off the brick wall. It's attachment to the roof also appears to be ok as there are no visible gaps. The only issue of course is the large opening at the back of the box gutter itself. That opening can be covered up with flashing or being filled with self- expanding foam.
However, the only proper way to be sure is to inspect it. Due to its height and location. I suggest engaging the services of a handy person or a roof repair professional to double check its integrity. Once it has been confirmed that the box gutter is secure, then the next step will be to get a quote to close off the large gap at the back. The advantage of having a professional properly seal the gap is that it will be done to code and will be covered under a warranty.
Let me call on our experienced members @Dave-1, @AlanM52 and @Nailbag for their recommendations.
If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Hi @sred,
For some reason that whole section (likely including the other side) has moved away from the brickwork.
Can we have another of that further back and also some photos from below.
Cheers
Hi @sred
There is another area along the roofline to the right of the box header that appears to be coming away. Both sections will need to be accessed from that corner roof space to assess fully. It's important firstly the areas are secured properly to the house. Then flashing made and installed with silicone to cover the remaining open areas.
My advice would be to get this repaired asap as the opening above the header is quite large, which indicates it's been pulling away. The last thing you want is rainwater entering the internal walls if it isn't already. I would consider getting a licensed plumber in to do this repair as they will be able to bend up a custom flashing in a matching colour on site.

Good Afternoon @sred
Have you had the coreflute styled roof replaced? It looks sound to me. Just left over edging material from a previous instance maybe?
The hole in teh wall is larger then the gutter and as long as there is no leak in that channel then it shouldnt be an issue.
We cannot see what the base of the opening is like and wether it is sealed from teh photo. I would say that it is as its been installed that way but without seeing we cannot confirm.
Is there a reason you have concerns? Such as leaking or dripping anywhere?
Dave
Hi @sred,
There needs to be a "flashing" in stainless steel around that gutter box, attached to the vertical wall behind it
Otherwise, you're going to end up with water splash back in towards the building, which is not what you want.
A simple question, how has this become detached from where it originally was placed?
That seems like a significant amount of movement between the wall and where the gutter box now is.
Is there a chance that the down-pipe below the gutter box got struck by a vehicle or something like that, to tear this out of position?
Cheers,
MikeT.
