How to fix gap between new benchtop and window trim?

We’re doing a kitchen reno and our new benchtop just got installed. We went from a 40mm laminate to a 20mm stone but now there is a small gap between the stone and the start of the window trim. How would you fix this? The gap is about 18mm, we can’t seem to find a moulding that matches the current style and we really want to avoid replacing the entire thing.

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us and thanks for sharing your question about your window trim.

Congratulations on the new bench top it looks very nice. This is a very common occurrence when benchtops are upgraded. One way to solve it is to remove the old window trim and replacing the entire lot with a new one. Another technique is to do what is called the "skirting board method".

A timber moulding strip is placed at the bottom and run from the front to the side all the way to the inside of the window frame. This gives you the illusion of a skirting board running along the bottom of the window frame. A good example is the Hume 42 x 18mm L/M Moulding White Pine FJ Primed Bullnose.

A little bit of the old window trim will need to be cut off in order for the moulding to fit underneath, but when

installed properly it will look like it belongs there and finishes the look of the window.
