How to fix leaking roof?

Hi,

I was hoping for some advice on a short term fix for our leaky roof.There is a large channel on our roof that often gets filled with fine leaf matter from a neighbouring pine tree. This leaf matter gets caught under the corrugated iron and we often get water leaks under the lower section of the roof into the room below.

I want to know if I should put some kind of wide waterproof tape between the edge of the corrugated iron and the channel to prevent leaves from collecting and to prevent water from seeping into my roof.

A mesh gutter guard over the whole section and a brand new roof are not feasible right now. Any alternative suggestions would be great. '

After much contemplation I believe that attaching the Fastfix 100mm x 5m Aluminium Waterproof Repair Tape will be a good temporary solution to the roof leak. I propose cleaning the edge of the corrugated roof as best as possible so that the tape will anchor properly both to the roof and the drain channel. The tape will act like a slide for the water increasing its velocity going down. This extra speed might be enough to wash away all that leaf matter before it forms a temporary dam at the bottom of the channel.

Another option is to use a blower to agitate the leaf on the roof so that they move to another section of the roof so that they will not concentrate all in that spot. When you have enough resources, I suggest installing gutter guard in that section of your roof.

Valleys in roofs always end up full... Especially with trees about. I have gums and a couple of pines but the gums are the ones that like filling my gutters up.

I dont see a way of installings omething to make it less likely to overfill. I am presuming that the valley itself still has shape under the metal sheets.

My solution would be to factor in cleaning that area of the room more often 😕 Yeah I know that is not high on anyones list, especially mine but pine needles are fine and will do a good job at combining together. As a reference I clean my gutters every 5ish months and really I should clean them every three months (the ones along the back of the house with the low sloped sunroom roof) The problem is I genwerally forget and only remember when water is pouring over the gutters themselves 😕

Id say clean every 3-4months, keep an on eye on the rusty part (Maybe use a rust converter paint if its not too far gone and a patch paint job depending on your assesment)
