How to fix roof gutter after wind damage?

Hi there,

I'm looking for advice on how I can fix my roof gutter. Looks like the strong winds have damaged the gutter.

I managed to push the gutter in before it got dark, but I think I need to replace the supporting bracket.

I need to check on it again in the morning, but I don't think it is secure at the moment and could fall out again.

When I was measuring the gutter, I measures about 12cm (bottom) and 9cm (side facing the bracket)

Anyone recommend what bracket I should be using and any tips on how it should be mounted?

It's great that you've received excellent advice from @AlanM52. I totally agree with the replacement part he has suggested. My best advice is to make sure to use a spirit level so that the fall in your gutter is accurate.

I forgot to mention (and @EricL reminded me) to suggest using a string line and line level.

That two pack has a graduated slope vial and the minimum fall is 1:150 (1cm drop per 5 metres).

Turns out that the bracket is slightly off. I must have a very old design. Below is a side by side comparison. It is about 0.5cm different at the section where the screws are.

Good news is that I was able to bend the old one back in shape and fixed the alignment.

My next problem seems to be misalignments in other places. Is this an issue with the bracket, or gutter itself? I have uploaded a video below.

Would love to get some advice of a solution without removing the entire gutter (if possible)

Hi @Pete112,

If the gutter is now fixed securely in position, then the slight difference in the gap at the rear is more of an aesthetic issue than a structural one. As long as it’s not leaking and it’s capturing and directing the water properly toward the downpipe, there’s no real cause for concern.

The main things to check are that the gutter is firmly attached, the water flows correctly along to the outlet, and there’s no water escaping over the back edge. If you do notice any overflow or water backing up, then it might be worth a closer look. But if everything’s functioning as it should, you’re good to go.
