Looking for ideas to freshen up the brick work on this recently purchased house. I was thinking of cleaning the bricks and painting the cladding white. First time renovator.
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Kristy20. It's brilliant to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about renovating a home.
Congratulations on your purchase.
It would be great if you could share more detailed photo so members can get a better sense of the overall look you’re aiming for and how the bricks and cladding work together.
To freshen up the brickwork, start by giving it a good clean using a stiff brush and a mild detergent, or for tougher stains, a brick cleaner made for external use. Avoid harsh acids unless the bricks are in excellent condition.
If you prefer a more modern or uniform look, limewash or masonry paint are good options. Limewash gives a softer, natural finish that still lets the brick texture show through, while masonry paint provides solid coverage in a colour of your choice. Pairing freshly cleaned or painted bricks with white cladding will definitely brighten the exterior and give it a more contemporary feel.
Painting the cladding white would certainly add some interest and freshen up the look as it's quite creamy at the moment. Also, check out our Top 10 most popular front yard projects for inspiration.
