How to insert eye bolt into brick wall?

1000022120.jpgHi

I have purchased this bolt and I am having trouble putting this in my brick wall. I've spent appx $75 more trying to get wall plugs, drill bit etc but nothing is working. Either sizing is wrong or the wall plugs are tapered. This eye bolt is non tapered, same measurements throughout the screwing part. So can someone please tell me how to get this bolt in my brick wall without spending more. I've given up!

Re: How to insert eye bolt into brick wall

Hello @ismailparkar

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thank you for sharing your question about your eye bolt.

Can you please tell us what you'll be hanging on the eye bolt. The eye bolt you have purchased is meant for timber and steel, but it can be mounted to brick using a timber base that is mounted to the brick. If a great amount of weight is being placed on it it will need to be very strong. Once you tell us what you'll be hanging on it, we can provide you with recommendations on how to mount it.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Re: How to insert eye bolt into brick wall

Hi Eric

Thank you for your kind reply.

It is to put an emergency washing line in the patio on rainy days. So I can tie a rope or clip a carbiner. I needed something fairly strong that is why I got this as this seemed nice and strong. I did look at the masonry eye bolt but I couldn't figure out how to mount it as the instructions seemed unclear due to its 2 to 3 removable parts. I thought I'll just get some wall plugs and get the job done, but it wasn't that easy to get wall plugs for the bolt.

Re: How to insert eye bolt into brick wall

Hi @ismailparkar

I suggest using the Macsim 10 x 70mm Galvanised Eye Bolt Head Masonbolt - 2 Pack. Drill a hole in your brick wall 70mm deep to the same size as the bolt. Slide the bolt into the hole and use a shifter to tighten the nut under hook eye. Keep the eye steady as you tighten the screw. Please keep in mind that once you install this hook eye, the only way to remove it is to cut the hook eye off with a grinder. It cannot be removed or recycled.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Re: How to insert eye bolt into brick wall

hi @ismailparkar

The type of anchor you are looking for (without buying a new eye bolt) it this type of anchor....

https://www.bunnings.com.au/macsim-m10-yellow-zinc-medium-duty-macloc-anchor-10-jar_p0121759

They used to be sold a singles but I can't find them on the Bunnings web site. Using these is simple drill the hole at the recommended size, screw the eyebolt into the fixing (I would recommend buying a good sized washer and putting it between the nut and the fixing) and insert it into the wall. The reason for putting the eye bolt in first is that sometimes you may hit a void in the wall and you don't want the fixing dropping into the wall. Then just tighten with the nut till solid. The advantage of this method of fixing it that you won't need an angle grinder if you ever want to remove it, just slacken the nut and unscrew the eye bolt.

Just a note here, if you hit a void in the wall and it is too close to the surface non of the suggested fixings will work and it may then be best to get a butterfly or toggle fixing and an eyebolt that will screw into it.

Re: How to insert eye bolt into brick wall

Hi Eric

Thanks again for the reply.

I had got this only initially but was confused on how much to drill as the end bit was removable, so I returned it back.  I looked for a demo video as well on the net but couldn't find any. But thanks for your reply. I'll have a look into it. It's all a learning process.

Kind regards

Ismail

Hi R4addZ

Thank you so much for your reply. The eye bolt that I've got does come with a washer. This seems like a great idea as well.  I will look into it. Another trip to bunnings

Kind regards

Re: How to insert eye bolt into brick wall?

Would this work?

I drill a hole, clean it and fill with liquid nails  entirely and put in the bolt and let it dry out and solidify.

Re: How to insert eye bolt into brick wall?

Hello @ismailparkar

If you are planning to use an adhesive to keep the bolt in place, I suggest using:

Here is a handy step-by-step guide: Ramset™ UltraFix PLUS Polyester Anchoring Kit

This will provide you with a much stronger anchor to your wall.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.
