I have moved into a new home in which the ceiling manhole isn't lockable, and, for security reasons, I wish to install a lock on it. Can anyone advise the best Bunnings products to use for this project? Many thanks.
Hello @AussiePossum
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us and thanks for sharing your question about your ceiling's manhole.
Here are a number of options in regards to locks:
Depending on the configuration of the manhole and how its finished the locks I've mentioned can be attached to either inside or on the surface of the manhole preventing it from being opened. The manhole's configuration will need to be modified so that it can't be lifted anywhere else except where the lock is positioned. If you can share a picture of your ceiling's manhole we can refine our recommendations to fit your needs.
If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Hi Eric, many thanks for your assistance. This is a picture of the sort of manhole I have: Would Bunnings have a lock that I can attach to the manhole; a lock that we can lock from its outside (i.e. not a lock that we use when we're in the manhole/roof space, but when we're beneath the closed manhole, and standing in our garage), and something for which we wouldn't need to modify its configuration?
Hi @AussiePossum,
I'd imagine the Delf Satin Chrome Keyed Window Sash Lock would be the easiest for you to install. You'll need two, one on either side (on the bottom), to secure the hatch. Otherwise, it can be picked up from the other side. I've marked suitable locations below.
Bear in mind that manhole covers are typically made of plasterboard, so that would need to be swapped out for timber. To install the locks, you will also need to add small risers to the cover so that the lock is level with the trim timber.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Mitchell
Ok, many thanks for your advice, I'll discuss it with my family. And re the addition of small risers to the manhole's cover - are these something that Bunnings sell, too?
There is no particular product, and it could just be small sections of timber to raise the height of the lock @AussiePossum.
