My townhouse is quite old and has moved over time. This has meant my fly screens no longer fit properly. I am looking to purchase something like permastik to put in the grooves where the old fly screen frame used to go. Is this possible?
Hi @Shazzy-Lee,
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is wonderful to have you with us.
It would certainly be possible to use something like the Permastik 2m x 2m Extra Large Removable Insect Screen Kit or the Permastik 1.5m x 1.3m Removable Insect Screen Kit, although they aren't the best permanent solution as they rely on an adhesive strip to fix them in place.
When you say that the flyscreens no longer fit, what was the main issue? Have the frames bent or broken in some way?
If we could fix the issue there, you might be able to use this handy guide on How to build a flyscreen frame to replace them with something a bit more permanent.
Let me know what you think.
Jacob
Thanks Jacob
The frames are fine. The house has moved over the years and therefor the widow frames are now not straight
Hi @Shazzy-Lee
I used these magnetic flyscreens in one of my caravans (available in XL as well). The adhesive backing magnet doesn't stick well at all but if you don't mind screwing into your window frame, you could use something like stitching screws to permanently attach them, I used rivets in mine.
What's in the box.
Loose lay the flyscreen over the frame, if you stretch it over, it will warp the frame
Follow the instructions to get the adhesive backing onto the window frame.
Then add fixings along the magnetic strip before it all falls off.
Then re-attach the magnetic insect screen.
I used the XL size for this long window and added roll up blinds that I made to suit.
Then peel up the corners to open/close the window.
Hope this helps 😊
Cheers
Shelley
