How to paint newly built house walls?

Hi,

We just moved our newly build house 1.5 year ago. Now we planning to paint our house. We wanna give our own touch and feelings to house . So we planning to to paint walls by ourselves.

Atm wall is painted by white colour, I don’t what is Called but definitely not a proper colour.

so if we wanna start painting DIY project what the process from begging to end?

means what tools we must have, what wall colour we should use, which brand we should pick what precautions we must adhere etc.

I'd just like to clarify whether you are planning to paint the inside or the outside of the house, as the process will be very different depending on what you are planning to paint. I assume you mean inside the house and will answer accordingly, but if it is the exterior of the house you are looking to paint, please let me know so I can assist further.

I'll start with a list of tools that are essential-

Paint Roller - for applying paints and primers to wide areas. A few different sizes can be handy (230mm, 100mm)
Roller Pole - increases the reach of a paint roller and reduces the strain on your body
Paint Tray - allows you to load up your paint roller before application
Paint Brushes - an assortment of brushes will be handy for cutting in and intricate areas like architraves and skirting boards
Canvas Drop Sheet - a thick, durable drop sheet will pay for itself 10 times over during a large painting project. It will stop paint drops from falling on the ground and reduce clean-up times dramatically.

You should also consider a paint sprayer, which can further reduce the time for application and strain on your body. Check out Power Painting for some further guidance.

Wall colours are incredibly subjective; however, in general, neutral tones are a popular and reliable starting point for new builds. Shades like soft white, warm greys, taupes, and beige provide versatile backdrops that work with a wide range of furniture and décor styles. These colours help create a sense of space and light, making rooms feel fresh, open, and easy to personalise. Cool greys and off-whites with blue undertones can feel crisp and modern, while warmer greys and creamy tones offer a more inviting, cosy atmosphere.

In terms of brand, Dulux, Taubmans and British Paints are all reputable brands that offer a variety of paints and their associated products. I'd suggest having a look at their ranges and weighing the options against each other.

Yes, I am planning to paint inside the wall.

do you think I should apply sealer or any protecting coat on wall before to apply main paint ?

if yes than which one should I use ?

Hi @jack89,

Considering it is a new build home, the paint should be in good condition, which would mean there is no real need for anything other than paint.

Paint sticks to paint well. If there were bare plaster, it would be worth using an undercoat, but assuming there is paint and it is in good condition, there is no need for anything else.
