How to patch walls with exposed render?

Hi team

Recently removed some plaster mouldings from about hip height around my house.

To patch over the exposed render, I was planning on using Gyprock multi-purpose compound to smooth over and flush with the rest of the wall and then skim with a topping compound.

Just want to confirm this is the right way to do this sort of job and do I require a primer or sealer before applying thr compound to the render before patching?

I propose cleaning the broken section and removing any remnants of the old render with a paint scraper. I suggest using Dunlop 20kg Multipurpose Acrylic Render to patch the damage on the wall.

Hi @Finklips,

Yes, applying a topping compound and then sanding will help give you a smoother primer-ready surface. The render will be too rough and stand out from the rest of the wall. However, it doesn't look like you have enough depth to be rendering and plastering; you'll end up with an area that protrudes from the wall. It appears that it's just white plaster over the cement wall. You might be better off applying a Hardwall Plaster to the wall and skipping the render altogether.
