Hi looking to start the mammoth task of painting the interior of our house. We have oil based paint on the skirts what’s the best way to prepare this.
also never painted ceilings before so tips with that would also be appreciated.
Cheers
Hi @wilkos,
For the skirting boards, you’re on the right track—start by giving them a light sand with 180-grit sandpaper to remove the gloss from the existing oil-based paint. This helps the new paint adhere properly. After sanding, apply a bonding primer like Dulux Max Adhesion before following up with a water-based topcoat.
When it comes to ceilings, using a flat or matte ceiling paint is a good idea, as it helps to hide any imperfections. Start by cutting in around the edges with a brush, then use a roller with an extension pole to cover the rest of the ceiling. Work in straight lines and slightly overlap each section, making sure to maintain a wet edge as you go to avoid visible lap marks. It can be a bit of a neck workout, but a freshly painted ceiling really lifts the whole room.
