How to prevent water seepage into a storage area?

Hi Team -

I’ve been noticing water coming into my storage area that sits under the outside stairs of my house. I initially thought the water was coming from another area, but now I see it’s coming from the very end of the storage. The cement inside the storage is getting very powdery too, which I think is due to moisture. I can remove it with my fingers…

Looking outside where I think the water is coming from, I see the grout is almost all gone and I wonder if that could be the source of entry for the water? Anyone has any experience dealing with this? And if I wanted this fixed by a professional, who would be the right trade to contact?

Thanks!

Re: Water seepage - storage area

Hi @bonino,

Unfortunately, without being able to see the full lay of the land, it would be extremely difficult to know where the leak is coming from. The damaged grout could be a contributing factor, but I doubt it is the entire reason.

The problem is that water can find its way into a seam a long way from where the leak is showing up, and track its way down and along, eventually popping up somewhere else entirely.

I'd suggest the best person to speak to is a leak detection specialist. They should be able to help you track down the source of the leak and recommend a method of rectifying the issue.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Jacob
