How to protect roof after applying rust buster?

Hi Team,

I have some rusty spots on my corrugated iron roof. I have applied rust buster, but want to know the next step to ensuring longevity of the roof. I would like to keep it a greyish / corrugated iron color if possible.

Dulux have recommended this: "Normally for a rusted roof, we remove the rust & spot prime with the Luxaprime ZP (for light rust) or Durebild STE (for heavy rust) & allow to dry followed by a coat of the Acratex MX Roof Primer. Once thoroughly dry we apply two coats of the Acratex Roof Membrane."

Keen to get a second opinion on this!!

Now that you’ve applied Rust Buster and converted the rust, the next step is to protect the metal by using an oil-based primer over the entire roof. This will seal the surface and provide a good base for paint. Once the primer has dried, you can then apply a top coat in a grey colour to match your corrugated iron roof.

It’s important to note that you cannot apply a galvanised coating over Rust Buster, so painting directly with a galvanised paint isn’t an option. The Dulux products you mentioned are all trade-grade coatings. These are generally used by professional painters, and I am not familiar with their application.

For a DIY approach, stick to a quality oil-based primer and suitable roof paint for the top coat to ensure longevity and maintain a grey finish.
