Hi Bunnings Workshop
How do I repair this damaged corner skirting board? I think it's the result of water damage. The wall is very thin plywood, and the blistered wall is concrete. Thanks for your tips!
Hello @quotemepls
Thanks for sharing your question about your skirting board. I suggest the first point that should be fixed is the source of the leak. But if has been addressed and sorted out then you can proceed to the repair steps. I suggest testing the surface of the board to see if it has rotted inside. Use a flathead screwdriver and push against the black section of the skirting board. If it sinks and goes right through that section will need to be replaced. But if it only marginally sinks, and the rest is still solid wood then repairing it could be an option.
If it is still solid, I suggest sanding the surface and removing all the soft sections of the skirting board. I recommend patching it with Turbo 175ml Builders Bog Flexipack. My best advice is not to add too much activator so that you have time to shape the bog properly. Your goal is to shape it nice and flat and at the same level of the skirting board so that you won't have to sand off a great deal. Clean the surface before painting.
If it is rotted through use a plunge saw to cut a section out of the wall and get a compatible timber piece from the store. Glue it back into position and sand the surface down. Fill the joint gap with filler sand it once more before painting over the patch.
