How to replace seal on fireplace flue?

Now the cold season has descended upon us I have a question around my very retro circular fireplace. Used it last year fine, but this year I have noticed the join from the enamel top to the flue is breaking down.

Please can anyone advise what I used to replace this - I presume it is merely running a join around it again I have no idea what it would be some kind of cement? fireproof????

Re: How to replace seal on fireplace flue?

Hello @Sminimori

Thanks for sharing your question about your fireplace flue. I suggest tracking down the manufacturer of the fireplace, I'm sure you'll be able to ask them what kind of seal was used for the flue. The manufacturer should be able to recommend a compatible sealer for the fireplace.

I also suggest speaking with a fireplace installer and asking them what they would recommend putting on as a sealer for the flue. It is difficult to tell what the material is, but for sure it is fire and heat rated. I don't recommend putting any type of sealer on it not until you've had a discussion with the either the manufacturer or fireplace installer.

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Eric
