How to replace seal on sliding windows?

Hi,

I want to replace this part of my old sliding door window. Could anyone tell me what its name is and where to buy it? It is the black rubber/plastic part between two window doors (blue circles).

Thanks a lot!

Re: sliding windows: what is this part?

Hi @tonytr,

Unfortunately, the images you’ve provided aren’t quite clear enough for us to get a good look at the part in question. It looks like the reflection on the glass is making it tricky to get a focused shot. From what I can gather, it seems like you’re referring to the lower edge of the top sliding window frame—possibly a strip or seal that’s affixed there and has started to deteriorate.

If you’re able to slide the front sash of the window completely upward, can you access that area more clearly? That might help in identifying whether this is a brush seal, weather strip, or a glazing bead of some kind. Often, these parts are designed to sweep the glass clean or form a weather barrier as the sash moves.

If you can try taking another photo—ideally a close-up with less reflection—or let us know whether the piece can be removed or accessed easily, we’d be in a better position to help you identify and replace it.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Re: sliding windows: what is this part?

That's a bit clearer @tonytr.

As before, I suspect it is a seal that prevents air from penetrating between the frames. I'd recommend removing the existing seal, giving the area a thorough cleaning, and then selecting a self-adhesive seal that you can apply to that area to prevent drafts.
