How to replace seals on old aluminium windows?

Kia Ora, after some help/advice please.

After cleaning around window frames in our home (recently purchased), there is a sticky residue left. Is this old gasket fittings or sealant?

after cleaning the interior glass I noticed water on the exterior sills, so I’m assuming I need to replace seals?

NB some of the sliding windows seem to have newer, clear scone type seals

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your windows.

I'm not exactly sure why the seals for your window have developed a sticky residue. But if they do need replacing, I suggest engaging the services of a professional glazier. The seal on the glass window is not actually silicone, but a form of rubber that is inserted along with the glass. A glazier uses a special tool to push this seal in and keeps the glass steady while making it watertight. This is something that can't be done as a D.I.Y project. However, sealing the sides of the large window frame itself is something that you can accomplish as a D.I.Y project.
