How to restrict rodent entry into roof ?

Hello,

Is there any pest control company who does rodent exclusion work in Melbourne and not just throw baits around roof ?

Can anyone here please tell me if there is any way to prevent rodent from entering into roof of house ?Is it safe to fill gaps under roof tiles with steel wool or hardware cloth and adhesive ? Rats have gnawed around my ac wiring.

Re: How to restrict rodent entry into roof ?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @araj. It's terrific to have you join us, and many thanks for your question about rodent exclusion.

Rodent exclusion is definitely something you’d expect some pest control companies to offer, but if they’re only focusing on baiting, it might be worth asking if they can refer you to someone who specialises in sealing entry points. Alternatively, a skilled handyperson with experience in roof and eave repairs may be able to help if you can identify where the rodents are getting in.

It is safe to block small entry points under roof tiles with materials that rodents can’t chew through—steel wool, hardware cloth, or fine chicken wire are commonly used. These can be secured in place with friction or even expanding foam (if used carefully and covered) to help hold them in.

Since you've had issues with gnawing around your AC wiring, it’s worth getting an electrician to check the damage and ensure nothing dangerous has occurred. Once the points of entry are properly sealed, you should notice a significant drop in rodent activity.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
