How to seal between window frame and plasterboard?

Hi all,

After doing a fair bit of Googling (and going down a few rabbit holes), I’m still left scratching my head, so I’m turning to the community for a solid answer.

I need to seal the gap between a window frame and the surrounding plasterboard. The gap isn’t huge, but I’ve noticed a definite breeze coming through, so I want to make sure I seal it properly.

I’ve come across all sorts of suggestions, but I haven’t found a clear, consistent recommendation that gives me confidence I’m doing the right thing.

So, what’s the best product and method to use here?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Best Way to Seal Between Window Frame and Plasterboard?

Hi @DavidSym,

A warm welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community, it is fantastic to have you with us.

In your situation, due to the fairly wide nature of the gaps, I would suggest starting by pushing some Gap Filler Rod into the gap. This will help to stop those draughts, but its main purpose is to act as a backing for some No More Gaps.

To get a nice clean application of your No More Gaps, use painter's tape to mask off the timber and the plasterboard. This will help you get nice, clean lines and keep the No More Gaps where you want it.

Apply a bead of No More Gaps wide enough to touch both sides of the gap and smooth it off with a Silicone Scraper.

Once the bead has been smoothed, pull the painter's tape to create your nice clean lines.

You might like to check out How To Silicone a Gap for an example of a similar process.

Let me know what you think and if you have further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
