Hi I have two unused chimneys that are currently open and letting wind (and I assume rain) into the house. What would you recommend i look for to block them and are there any products that are easily DIY friendly

I propose checking the specific rules for your state/territory through your local council and find out whether your area requires a registered specialist to cover or cap an unused chimney flue. Some forums suggest putting in a ventilated cap to prevent trapping moisture in the flue allowing it to breath. But as I mentioned it all depends on the rules and regulations of your area.
In the interest of health and safety, I would recommend using a professional to cap off or decommission your fireplace flue. They will be working at height which will require them to wear a harness. They will need extended trade ladders to reach your roof and carry materials to your roof for capping. They will have the knowledge and experience to properly and safely cap off your flue. The good part of having a professional cap off your flue is that it will be covered with a warranty and the job will be done to code.
