Hi guys,
im wanting some advice on how to tile the floor and back wall of this fire place. First time tiler and can’t seem to find much advice in regards to how to tile over brick!
please see pics!
thanks!
Hi @akg92,
If the brick is solid and there are no visible cracks in the joints, then it can be tiled over like other solid substrates. However, if there is any movement, you’d likely need to sheet the area with compressed fibro to provide a stable tiling surface.
I just wanted to point out that it’s one thing to close off the fireplace and tile the surrounding areas, but adding tiles to the inside of the firebox is a different matter. I assume you don’t intend to use the fireplace and that the tiling is purely for aesthetic purposes. However, you may need to check local building regulations, as if the fireplace isn’t permanently decommissioned, there are requirements for using materials that can withstand the heat from a fire. Even if you don’t plan to use it, a future buyer might not realise that the tiles inside aren’t suitable for high temperatures, which could be a safety concern.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Mitchell
Hi Mitchell,
thanks for the reply! Very helpful.
the drier place is decommissioned as per our building report. It would be for purely aesthetic purposes!
