In-built wall shelves with ladder

We have always wanted an inbuilt wall shelf with a ladder to be able to display all our memorable pictures, souvenirs and 

books.

Steps

Step 1

1. Drew a rough design of the inbuilt shelves and made sure to measure correctly to the wall where we wanted to build it.

2. Bought all the materials required as listed above.

3. Built and made each shelving units separately.

4. Mounted shelves together onto wall and added the mouldings and trims to close all the gaps and joineries from ceiling to floor.  Roughly built ladder to size.  Put paper inside the wall shelves in preparation for painting.

Step 5

5. Filled in gaps, covered nails and screws, and sanded polished the entire shelves.  Wiped and cleaned shelves with wet microfiber cloth in preparation for painting.

6. Painted the shelves.

It's really impressive what you've achieved there! I'm sure you are proud of your efforts, as the project has really transformed that space. I love the design and the attention to detail with finishing mouldings.

 

Many thanks for sharing so many brilliant pictures of the build and listing out the steps. I trust they'll be exceptionally helpful for any of our members who wish to re-create your project in their homes. 

 

With such an inspirational first post, we'll all be keen to see what you contribute next. Well done.

I will honestly admit this was by far the hardest I've had to paint by hand brush and roller with all the corners and timber mouldings! I actually started crying when I finished painting this! hehehe

 

Hence, have started to learn how to spray paint using the Wagner paint sprayer products. Getting ready and some practice to re-do our kitchen cupboards soon and wanted a more non-brush stroke look on the kitchen cupboards to a smoother finish look. We'll see how we go 😊

 

Hubby Ron builds, I (Ethel) do the designs and most of the sanding and painting. Ron will alter the designs at times based on how it's going to be built. Definitely a lot of time and effort but we're passionate about our DIY projects and really put our heart and soul into every project we do to completion 😊
