Levelling my house on adjustable piers

Hello. My house sits on top of adjustable piers. There was recent flooding that seems to have cause some movement and a couple of doors are starting to stick and cracks in the walls appearing.

I’m looking for advice on the process of levelling it back out and can’t find much on Google/YouTube. Each pier has 2 x ~40mm nuts. I assume I would need to adjust the top nut on each with a big spanner until each steel beam they support was level? Is a jack required at all? Would a laser level be a worthwhile investment if I need to do this regularly? Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Levelling my house on adjustable piers

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Bloke. It's fantastic to have you join us, and many thanks for your question.

Levelling of a home is not a D.I.Y. job. You'll need to employ a specialist's services in that field to complete the levelling, which will ensure that the home's integrity is maintained throughout the whole process. It is a dangerous process, and doing it yourself could put your house, family and neighbours at risk. It is highly likely that your insurance would not cover any existing damage or damage caused by your attempt to level the house. I strongly recommend that you do not adjust the piers and instead seek professional guidance.

It would be best if you started by contacting several registered house-levelling contractors for quotes. Then you can enquire with your local council to see if any applications need to be submitted before the levelling commences. It would also be a good idea to speak with your home and contents insurer to see how your policy rates might be affected.

Please let me know if you need further assistance or have questions.

Mitchell
