Replacing stick on tile flooring

Replacing stick on tile flooring

my house had stick on tiles in the kitchen + meals area and sheet laminate in the dining room

i assume the kitchen + meals area were from the 80's judging by the style.

I painted the ceiling, walls + doors with a hog bristle + paperbark combo.

Sanded the natural wood skirt boards and window frames and varnished them.

Decided i wanted to make my meals area the new computer area so its in the corner of the lounge instead of in the corner of the smallest bedroom of the house.

I used a paint scraper to lift the old stick on tiles and went with Winton 30x30 Charcoal stone tiles, and flowed them from the meals area into the kitchen.

I plan on using them in the dining room aswell but my lounge carpet is pretty old and dirty.

Ive owned the place 12yrs, it was a rental before i owned it, add a few dogs and today i decided its time to rip up the carpet and use the tiles in the lounge as well.

It'll be easier to clean with dogs, and i can use a large rug i have spare in the middle of the lounge room.
After ripping up the carpet and the carpet stays (is that what theyre called?) i had to use a bit of "turbo concrete bog" to fill in the chips where the nails were in the concrete foundation.

Ive run the paint scraper over any dirty spots on the concrete, swept and vac'd the foundation so its dust free.

It still looks a little dirty in some places but it doesnt scrape off. Not sure if i should mop the concrete or not as then i'd also have to wait for it to dry before i can start laying.

I'm lifting carpet one large section at a time and will just lay a few sqr metres each night so its not too overwhelming and i slowly get results as i go, to help inspire me to continue on.

Heres some pics of what i've done so far.

and this is todays effort starting on the lounge room.

ive now started laying some of the new tiles but notice the old ones dont have a nice glossy finish like the new ones do.

how can i bring the high gloss shine back to the other tiles that are about 5mth old?

Re: stick on tile flooring

Hello @Bliv

Thank you so much for sharing those update photos on your stick-on tile flooring project.

Your floor looks great with the new stick-on tiles. Using your vacuum cleaner to pick up all the dust and debris is a good alternative to moping the floor. Your current method of doing one section at a time is perfect as it allows you to do it on your own time. I suggest this product Long Life 1L Self Shining Floor Polish to bring back the shine on the older tiles.

Please keep us updated, we would love to see the floor once it's finished.

Re: stick on tile flooring

almost finished now.

Have done the lounge, meals area (now a computer area), kitchen, the hall, and most of the dining room.

once i finish the dining room the job is done. I just have to do the area under the dining table as seen on the images below.

bought a matching rug + runner from rugs a million. 4 metre runner down the hall, and a small 1600x1100 runner under the computer chair so it protects the floor and feels nice under the feet when im sitting at the desk.

Purely by luck it worked out really nice that as the tiles flowed from room to room by the time i got to the hall the centre tile row is almost perfectly lined the whole way down the hall

I bough the floor polish you mentioned and have done my floor but it really didnt bring much shine back, not like they are when new anyway but it does look a bit better.

the whole house feels a LOT nicer now it has new flooring (and it matches between rooms)

previous owners flooring job was a bit of this and a bit of that.
