I am about to clad a new dwelling in Hardie Fine Texture can you tell me what/type nails for my nail gun, type of glue to be used and gap filler. It is being installed on pine timber added to the frame.
Thanks Sue
Hi @Sue15,
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community and thank you for your question.
The information required for the installation of Hardie Fine Texture Cladding can be found in the Hardie Fine Texture and Hardie Brushed Concrete Cladding Installation Guide and supplementary documents found on the James Hardie page here - Hardie™ Fine Texture Cladding.
The specific fixings are relative to the type of installation. This can be found on page 6 of the installation guide.
It looks like you are using the cavity fix installation method which means you can use Paslode 25 x 1.6mm Stainless Steel Pneumatic Brads with Hardie™ Joint Sealant between the batten and cladding. Both of these products would need to be special ordered, so speak with the team at your Special Orders desk to get pricing and place an order.
You can also use Selleys No More Gaps Exterior Gap Filler for the filling of seams prior to painting.
I would just double check to confirm that the nail gun you have is capable of firing these brad nails. If you can advise the model of nail gun you have, I would be happy to confirm its suitability for you.
Due to the complexity of this task, I would suggest you review the installation guide closely, particularly the checklist on page 19 and 20. If you feel you are not up to the task, I'd consider having a carpenter or licenced builder carry out the install on your behalf.
Let me know if you have any further questions.
Jacob
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community @Sue15. It's great to have you join us and many thanks for your question on installing Hardie Fine Texture cladding.
Here's the link to their installation guide and application guide to joints and junctions. All the information you need will be within those guides.
These Paslode 25 x 1.6mm Stainless Steel Pneumatic Brad - 2000 Pack would be suitable for a bradder nail gun. Note that if it is a high-wind area, there's a requirement to use fibre-cement nails instead of brads.
Hardie's joint sealant is to be applied to your battens and the edge of the shiplap prior to installing the sheets.
Please let me know if you have any questions.

I'm installing fine texture cladding on a projuct the JH app is telling me to use stainless steel brads can I use galvanised? I'm inland.
Hi @Sue15,
It's best to use stainless steel as it won't rust. Galvanised brads only have a protective coating on them, which can be scraped off when they are shot into the cladding. Since water can get behind the cladding, it can rust out the very thin brads. Using brads to install cladding is already pushing boundaries, so it's best to use the specified products, especially if you wish to keep the warranty on the boards.
