Hi,
I have a squeaking floor board that could not be fixed from the inside. House was built in 1975. The floorboards could be either Messmate or Stringybark timber. When I went under the house to view the board itself I noticed:
1. Tiny holes on parts of the board.
2. I push into some parts of it and it was flaky, powdery and brittle.
3. No evidence of the culprit/insect.
4. All other boards are fine, only this one particular board itself (refer image)
5. Only about 30% of the board had this issue going for a length of about1.3m.
I would like to know if you think its termites/wood borer or something else.
Thanks.
Regards,
Ricky
Hello @rickylee12345
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your floorboards.
It appears to be infested with borers, because of the size of the infestation and the damage on the board, I suggest engaging the services of a professional pest controller as they will have the knowledge and experience to give you a proper diagnosis. It is difficult to say how far the borers have travelled or if the panels next to it are infested.
However, if it is termites the pest controller will be able to advise you on what steps to take.
I also suggest having a look at this discussion - How to eradicate termites DIY? by @dip.
