Hi everyone we’ve been very busy at Lisa’s Garden! Now that the warmer months have finished and we’ve had a bit of rain, we thought it was time to construct our Maze 2.4m x 3.6m polycarbonate greenhouse! The area we’ve chosen is close to the edible garden paved area and raised garden bed. We recently extended the raised bed but just two sleepers high( will fence it with trailer sides to keep out Audrey🤣) We haven’t levelled off the area for greenhouse, but have built up with Sienna sleepers, which gets rid of an ugly corner and takes advantage of the views.
The greenhouse is a big project and does require a lot of patience, but well worth it in the end. You need to have a full day so that you can get it to a secured and safe stage and requires two people. We also added extra stability and support with upright sleepers snd cross Timbers onnthecsides that will cop the wind. We also have screwed greenhouse all around base to sleepers.
It has taken around 20 hours with the two of us putting it up (not including foundation base.) We are going to have soil beds either side with a crushed stone path down middle and then decked area at back for my pots. We will also be adding some timber sleeper shelves at the back of greenhouse.
I will be growing veggies in the greenhouse to extend growing times ( eg tomatoes) and also to protect things like capsicum and eggplants from frosts, so that they can be grown as perennials. Starting off seeds to get a head start on Spring sowing will also be done in the greenhouse. . Pots will also be moved in over winter, cold sensitive plants like banana and Chocolate Pudding plant. I will be putting Dragonfruit in the permanent beds, I currently have one growing on my Verandah
Here are the photos from what we have done so far, with more to follow as we progress.
