If you can provide some details of the entrance set you purchased, that would greatly assist our members in answering your question. If we can't figure it out and it's not mentioned in your installation instructions, then I'd be happy to contact the manufacturer after the weekend for you.
My best guess is that it's a tool used in the installation or removal process.

Vaguest of memories - but wasn't there a "tool" required to push in the tab (or tabs) to remove the handle - on the round variety??
