How to update wall behind fireplace?

Hi guys, I’m looking to update the wall behind my free standing fireplace. Ideally wanting to vj pannel the wall behind. Is this safe to do?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's splendid to have you join us, and thank you for sharing your question about putting EasyVJ panelling behind your fireplace.

I suggest having a quick look at this discussion - Can I use VJ panelling around and above my built-in fireplace? by @pjwilkinson. Easycraft have very specific rules regarding the installation of EasyVJ panels near a fireplace.

I also recommend thinking about painting the bricks behind the fireplace. This would be an easy way to upgrade the look of your wall without having to build a panel frame.

But before you begin, I recommend having a look at your local council's rules and regulations regarding what materials can you use around and behind your fireplace.
