Home office update with VJ panelling

Office makeover with VJ panels, timber shelves, desk and new paint.

The project

I updated my home office that seconds as my library. I used VJ Panelling, Project Panels, Shelving Brackets, paint and hardware all from Bunnings and I'm very happy with the result.

We started with three 2400 x 1200mm VJ panels, which were then cut down to size and fixed to the wall directly in the studs behind that had been marked out earlier.

Once hung, we were able to tape up the wall, and start painting. Tip: Make sure you have some light sandpaper to run between the grooves of the VJ as it is a bit rough. This will give you a nicer finish when painting. We used Dulux Dinosaur.

Both the desktop and shelves were made from the Beech Laminated Panel from Bunnings. One was full size and the other one was cut down to make the shelves. Again, the brackets were fixed directly to the studs.

We're very happy with the outcome and are looking at eventually hanging more shelves on the other side of the room to watch the ones in this picture for more storage space.

Hi there, I was wondering how did you get the VJ lining board to sit under the cornice without removing the cornice. ?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's wonderful to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about VJ panelling.

Let me tag @Taysha to make them aware of your question. Looking at the photos it seems that the panels were installed with the edges very close to the cornice. You'll notice on the second photo of the installation that the cornice is still attached to the wall and does not look like it was modified.

Hi @debc

Sorry I didn't see your question and I actually have no idea how to just respond to your post so I will just post a new one.

It was just some very precise cutting. It sits on the top of the skirting and under the cornice. I wish I had some fantastic hack but unfortunately it was just a case of measure 500 times and cut once haha.

Thanks @Taysha for the reply, I thought that is how it would have been done because it would be a major project to remove cornice.

I have one more question though not sure if you or anybody else here watching the discussion can help, but will try and explain what I mean.

I am intending on putting the lining board on three different walls in three different rooms and all of these walls will have an edge, which does not join to a wall so I was wondering what one would do along that edge to make it look neat and finished. 🤔

Would appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks @Dave-1 , they do look as if they would be suitable. My plan is to paint the VJ so would just paint the moulding the same, should be fine. Thank you 😊
