Timber Venetian blinds were used to help makeover an old tallboy.
The project
This was a simple project using recycled material. A while ago I was given some old timber Venetian blinds that were dumped in hard rubbish. I had quite a few left over and decided to give some new life to a tallboy that was also handed down to me.
I lightly sanded the frame and used my Wagner Paint Sprayer to paint it in semi-gloss black. I love my spray gun: it does give a smooth, even finish and gets right into the small spaces. Hand painting is great, but I get lazy cleaning brushes.
I wanted to add a hexagon shape to the front drawer panels, but the blinds are quite thin. I decided to split the hexagon in half and then glue it together, to give me a bigger shape.
First, I glued the vertical slats onto the drawer front with Liquid Nails and lightly sanded off the varnish.
I then glued the shapes I cut together, forming the hexagon across the front. All pieces were cut by hand and sanded.
I reattached the hardware and added some trim to break up the drawers. I played around with a few different designs and lots of cutting but I got there in the end.
