How to repair door runner on cavity sliders?

Door runner on cavity slider seems to have dropped/broken. When cavity slider is closed it is even, hangs well but when open, sits at an angle. I thought that we would have to cut into the plaster board on the wall to access the track/runner to repair? Thanks in advance.

Hi @Dawn22,

It could be the track that has dropped, and that would require you to access the wall, but it's more likely the rear roller has failed. Can you take a picture of the top of the door at the same height as it? A picture from both sides of the door would be good. Depending on how the door was installed, typically, there is a cover plate/moulding that conceals the top of the door, rollers and track. Once this timber moulding is removed, you'll have access to the mounting hardware to inspect them.

Alternatively, a gap might allow access to the bolts on the rollers. Check out this discussion: How to remove cavity sliding door.

Hi Mitchell

Top of door pictures. This only has 2 brackets with rollers & both appear to be working. When door is closed it is square to the door frame, when open the door is not flush with the frame. Cant see far enough in the cavity with the door to see if the track is loose.

Hi @Dawn22,

The rollers appear to be adjusted correctly, and if the door is running smoothly, I'd suggest they are not the issue. Unfortunately, by the look of the track, it appears that the fixing screws might have come out down the far end. Is the track pulling away and beginning to twist in the image below where I've marked it? If the end of the track is sagging then that would be the reason why the bottom of the door is kicking out when fully opened.

The screws down the end of the track most likely need to be re-installed. The easiest way to do this would be to open up a couple of access ports in the plaster and fix the track back into position.

Thanks Mitchell, we’ll have to cut into the plaster. Can’t see the track in the cavity with the door there but even if you could, no access.

So, you'd be accessing this side of the wall in the image below @Dawn22. That appears to be a wall to the left. What's on the other side of the wall, as that's just about where access should be made? You won't be able to see the track if you've accessed it through the blue-painted wall.

Built in cupboard Mitchell. No access there. Looks like remove the plaster to see what we have to deal with. Tks Dawn
