How to repair aircon vent?

Hi, I went to close the vent slats after goddess knows how many months and 2 plastic pieces fell out and soon after the whole thing became unstable.

From a little youtube work I've learned the plastic pieces broke off and are meant to hold it up. So probably a 2 person job one in the roof one on a ladder.

Can you give me any suggestions or advise before i start trying to fix this based on youtube?

I’m sorry, but I haven’t been able to find a generic product to replace these clips with. It seems like you might need to order a replacement part or possibly replace the entire vent. Theses clips will be necessary to re-install your vent cover.

If your product is from Bunnings, I recommend visiting your local store and talking to the Special Orders team. Make sure to bring the broken piece with you so that they can try to identify it. They can get in touch with the manufacturer to help you order replacement parts, whether it’s just the clip or the whole vent.

If it’s not a Bunnings product, try checking the vent for a make and model number, then reach out to the manufacturer. They should be able to let you know if a replacement part is available or if you’ll need to replace the vent entirely.

My evaporative air-con is circa 1997 - and those broken clips look like mine - and they shattered with the passing years.

My solution, aesthetically pleasing or not, was to screw the frame in place.

The cavity is very close to the frame, so I found gyprock anchoring devices useless.

Removed the entire frame. Cleaned as best I could the inner gyprock surface.
Cut wood strips to fit - and glued with liquid nails.

Let dry.

Pre-drill and screw.

Just a thought.
