How to replace blade for Cheetah lawnmower?

Hi everyone. I have a Cheetah Lawnmower. It's not great but it does the job and starts first time every time which is great.. https://www.bunnings.com.au/cheetah-16-127cc-cut-and-catch-lawn-mower_p3381027

2 questions.

1. I need new blades as they are chipped pretty bad after a few years. Any thoughts on the best replacement that will actually be sharp and cut rather than thrash grass 🙂

2. Is there any companies that make larger/hard grass catchers for these. It fills so fast I empty like 6/7 times in summer during a cut

I have a 2 year old with a disability so time is short, so need mowing to be as fast as possible.

The replacement blades for this unit can be ordered through your local store's Special Orders desk. The reference code for the bar blade kit is CA09582A. When blades become dull they either need to be replaced or sharpened. These replacement blades, although budget-friendly, are made by Briggs and Stratton and are of good quality.

The catcher assembly which is hard top and material bottom (no hard catcher (top and bottom) available) product code is CH87726A. It's slightly larger than the original material catcher, but since this mower is a 16" it can only accept catchers of that size.

That's the blade that was specified to me as the replacement from the manufacturer @GingerNinja. However, you could take the blade into your closest store and the Power Gardening team member will be able to check other brands to see if there is an equivalent.

I can't remove my blade. I've tried very hard turning the bolt anti-clockwise. I've comer across mowers which clockwise to remove blade. Which is the Cheetah? Can I bring my mower in so you guys can remove it?

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about removing your mower blade.

I've only come across a basic Cheetah manual in regards to the blade removal, I've posted the relevant page down below. I can only suggest the basic bolt removing steps and that is to soak the bolt in WD40 and using a closed ended wrench to turn the bolt anticlockwise. If you need more leverage, I suggest sliding a pipe onto your wrench to generate more force. Please note that excessive force could snap the bolt head off so please be careful. In regards to the direction of the turn, the bolt must be turned anticlockwise to loosen it up.

🙂 A warm welcome to the community for sure. I admit I have struggled with replacing lawnmower blades multiple times over the years. Different model lawnmowers, age of the worn blades have all racked up to the point that I asked my local mower repair shop do they switch blades over? There answer was "Yep" Think it cost me $10 or maybe $15 about a year or two ago. I know it isnt a do it it yourself but for the time I have spent previously.... Yep, I was cheering all the way with the wallet 🙂

Personally I would take the mower to a local lawn mower shop @GingerNinja. They will be able to remove it in about 10sec with an impact wrench and in the right direction. They will have a greater range of bar blades to match the one you have. It's very important that it's matched as close as possible to ensure it's not only the right length, but the right shape for efficient lawn cutting and balance to ensure there is no vibration.

Unlike swing back blades, bar blades can be resharpened as long as it's done evenly again to avoid vibration.

As far as catchers go, unfortunately there is no industry standard for fitment. So, you're stuck with the one you have. If you ever decide to replace the mower, bag catchers are twice as good as solid plastic. Lighter and catch more grass because they provide more efficient air-flow. It also means a full bag will be lighter to empty. It's also a contentious argument bag vs hard plastic. But just check what the pro's use 9/10 use some form of bag catcher for the benefits mentioned.
