How to install new shower head?

Hi everyone! I am very puzzled about how to install this new shower head I bought. The showerhead set seems pretty common, but I am having major problems removing the inner cylinder off from the splitter. Should this part be removed then install first into the wall outlet? (Seems so from the manual but it seems impossible to take it out…) appreciate your help in advance!

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us and thanks for sharing your question about your shower head.

You're in luck johnnyd, I recently had a member ask the very same question you are asking now. I suggest having a look at this discussion - How to replace old shower arm with new shower/hose combination? by @PumpkinDIY. Generally speaking, the body of the shower assembly has a special brass fitting that is fixed in place and must be removed first in order to install the entire set. The brass connector is held in place with grub screws. There will be two of them one on each side of the brass connector, I suggest searching for the access hole where the grub screws are. Once you locate them use an Allen key to remove the grub screws. Keep them in a safe place as they are so easy to loose.

Once the grub screws are off the brass connector can be pulled out. This brass connector can now be installed to your wall outlet. Please make sure to use plumber's tape on the threaded fitting on the wall before screwing the brass connector in place. Please observe carefully the position of the brass connector as it directly affects the position of the body of the shower assembly. Always carry out a test fitting to make sure that the shower body assembly is facing in the correct direction.

I hope that clears up the confusion, once you succeed in removing and installing brass connector, I suggest following the rest of the installation instructions on your shower manual.

Thanks Eric! I’ve actually removed the 2 grub screws on the side that supposedly hold the brass connector together but upon that it doesn’t seem to come out T.T

Should I use a wrench or something to grab it out? Any suggestion is much appreciated!!

Hi @johnnyd,

With the grub screws removed, if you are having trouble removing the brass piece, it looks like you'll need to utilise the two slots I have highlighted below.

You should be able to use pliers with a narrow nose, such as these 200mm Long Nose Pliers or these Craftright 210mm Long Nose Pliers to grip and rotate it out.

Hey @johnnyd! As @EricL mentioned above I was having a similar problem, and mine was super stuck like yours. I took it to my local Bunnings and screwed it a couple rotations onto the thread tester (in the screws aisle), and was able to yank it out that way. It was a bit stubborn, but it worked!

Thank you so much for that update, I totally forgot about the O rings holding it in place! Excellent technique in getting it out, surely it should now be smooth sailing in regards to installation.
