How to raise TV height with flatpack stand?

Hi.

I'm looking for ideas to extend the height of the TV with the dimensions below.

This is cramped University accommodation.

The main criteria is it must be able to be transported on a bus in flatpak mode and then reassembled on arrival.

Hoping that makes sense.

Hi @Noyade,

Any chance you could cut off the existing legs, install leg mounting plates and then attach legs that are 200mm + the length of the existing legs? So, maybe something like these Adoored 230mm Pine Square Furniture Legs. Alternatively, there might be a one-piece leg such as the Adoored 60 x 230mm White Round Metal Furniture Leg that would suit.

Or, is the idea that you want to create additional storage under this stand?

He wants something that can be placed on top of the existing cabinet extending the height by 200mm for the TV - better viewing.

I was thinking two specrite boards (8.4 kg) with some sort of spacer/s?

The addition of legs would certainly put the TV at the correct viewing height @Noyade, but I like the idea of creating a stand.

I'd suggest purchasing three lengths of the panel and cutting the third into the end spacers and then one for a mid-divider, as below. By my calculations, they should be 164mm long to achieve your 200mm height.

What about a 'mini' table?

One board - six of these - and six of No. 40192 cut to say 180mm with some form of friction creating rubber glued on the ends?

For the bus trip - six legs in a bag and one bracketed board.

No tools required for assembly.

That sounds like it would work @Noyade. Those bolts on the ends are typically designed to thread into a leg bracket. You could drill suitably sized holes in the panel and screw the end bolts directly into the timber. I'd also glue the joint for stability.

How about something like Kaboodle 150mm Wine Rack - Gloss White It dosnt have quiet the dimensions you want but depending on how far apart the feet are on the tv it could work? I am just a little worried about adding too much weight to the existing flatpack cupboard is all.

I take that back - he's a good lad, so I bought a nice piece of Merbau instead of pine.

And a big thumbs up to the Bunnings staff members of Aisle 10 - who helped me find the sixth leg.

It worked out rather well - and very strong. The Merbau was a much better choice.

Two tips from the experience.

1) - I used a mini abrasive drop saw to correct the bolt lengths.

2) - The screws with the mount kits weren't to my liking and they were slotted heads.

So I went with full length threaded stainless steel screws with Phillips heads.

Thanks for sharing that update. That TV stand looks very strong and sturdy. It should be more than enough to hold the weight of the TV. The subwoofer can then be laid horizontal under the shelf allowing the TV to be at the center of the stand. My only suggestion is to add Surface Gard 25mm Anti Skid Pads to the feet of the stand to prevent the TV stand from shifting or sliding around.

If you look closely on the previous page, my Bunnings goodies collection photo from this morning has the anti-skid pads. I went with Slipstik Gripper pads 38mm.

That's a brilliant thought @EricL !

I was gonna cut them back but just saw your post. I texted him - the subwoofer is 190 mm on it's side. I currently have 240 mm clearance.

The biggest issue was the bus trip.

He said there was water in the luggage compartment.

Seems odd, but the wood oil 'ran.'

Sometimes the oil might run on items and high humidy in those student rooms? And I have seen air con condensation on buses. Did it effect the top of the board?

They pressure wash the bus before departure - I suspect (dunno why tho) a small amount of water entered the baggage compartment below the passengers.

I also suspect the board was placed on a small pool of water by the bus driver and sloshed about during the trip. When my son collected it at the terminal end, the board was already streaking and running.

Only one side affected - he took that photo when he was assembling it. After talking to paint staff this morning I probably never left enough time for the Merbau to soak up the wood oil before the trip. No damage done - I'll redo it a later date.
