How to insulate and clad a steel Colorbond shed?

Hi,

I have a 6x6m steel colorbond shed with 1 door, 1 window and a large double roller door.

I want to insulate it and clad it with ply, eventually adding a heat pump so I can use it in winter (I live in Tasmania).

What is the best way to do this so it’s cooler in summer, warmer in winter, I can hang items from the walls (tv) and turn it into a cosy warm space?

Would love product tips to help with doing this in a cool Tasmanian climate and to avoid condensation issues. Ideally I want it to be warm and cosy in winter and when I turn on the heater it doesn’t lose heat straight away.

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about insulating your shed.

Insulating a Colorbond or steel shed has been a popular discussion in the community. My general recommendation is to build a timber frame within the steel frame of the shed. In this manner, you maximize the space available, and it allows you to install your choice of interior cladding. The timber frame can be spaced in such a way that it will allow standard batts to be installed between them. This will provide you with the insulation you are after. If your shed base was properly poured with a moisture membrane installed, you can use Standard Carpets 1000 x 1000mm Charcoal Polypropylene Carpet Tile or HanWood 5mm Vega Oak Hybrid Waterproof Flooring - Aquila Sands.
