Hi, have just had a timber fence put in and the front gate has a metal frame with timber cladding. Will be painting the timber with Dulux Weathershield but wondering what’s the best way to paint the metal gate frame?
thanks!
Hello @slimjim
Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about painting your galvanized gate frame.
In order to paint a galvanized surface, I suggest washing it first with Selleys 1L Wall Surface Cleaner Super Concentrate Sugar Soap. Please note that this is a concentrate and must be diluted down before use. This will remove all the oil and grease contaminants that are on its surface. Once the frame dries off, I suggest using the White Knight Rust Guard 300g Grey SLS Etch Primer Spray Paint to prepare the surface of the galvanized frame. For the topcoat, I recommend choosing from the White Knight Rust Guard products they can be tinted to match the colour of your Dulux Weathersheild paint. I don't advise using Dulux Weathersheild on the galvanized surface as it will not adhere properly.
If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Morning @slimjim and @EricL
front gate has a metal frame with timber cladding.
Looks good!
Is it a metal frame from Bunnings?

I was looking at the top right mitre - is it welded? Or is it a 'shark fin' cut - bent together and pop-riveted?
Hard for my eyes to tell.
Cheers.
Hi @Noyade,
It appears that it could be one of our Fortress Gate systems. They have fully welded joints.

Thanks mate. Then that's a very good looking product for the price!
