How to plaster, replace skirting board and lay carpet?

Hi guys,

Bathroom renovator is renovating my bathroom. He was kind enough to put the plaster board on another room (adjancent to the bathroom). Unfortunately he is too busy to do the plastering and skirting and I have to wait for a while before he can come back.

I said to him, let me try to get some information and if something I can do. If I can do, this is going to be so cost effective and beneficial for me for other projects down the road.

Following are images.

As you can see, he had to take skirting boards, which is going to be hard to find these day. I have to get another skirting board.

Similarly I am planning to change carpet on this room.

Questions:

Plastering - I saw some videos the plastering. What tools are needed from bunnings ? If any other DIYers have done this. To paint this. I believe, the primer goes first on the plaster board followed by the few quotes of actual color.
Skirting - I need to get new skirting board. I believe this has to be fixed after Plastering is done and before carpet is laid. What tools are needed. I have Nail Gun.
Laying new carpet - I saw some videos of this. If this is doable by me, I would like to try. What tools I will be needing here.

I suggest having a quick look at this discussion - How to plaster over new Gyprock plasterboard? by @siva26. That discussion also has a list of tools that you'll need when plastering your wall. The general process involves plaster being applied to the join then a paper backing is placed over the join and then plaster is applied over the surface again. The video guide will give you a much better idea of the process involved.

Please keep in mind that the skirting must be installed first before the carpet is laid out.

Is plastering Villaboard and Gyprock plasterboard same ?

The method that will be done for the ceiling same as what we do for the wall ?

I will be needing to the plastering next to the tiles on the ceiling as well.

Hello @Sugar

Although the general process may seem similar the products used are different, especially for wet areas. In this particular situation, I suggest engaging the services or a professional plasterer as they will have the knowledge and experience on what products to use for wet area applications. It is not something I would recommend attempting as a D.I.Y. project as it requires experience to apply the products.
