How to fix broken door hinge?

Hi there, 

The bottom hinge on my bathroom door is coming off. 

In close inspection it appears as if the screw threads no longer bite into the wood holes, and some of the wood around the holes appears to be chipping away a little bit.

I'm not very handy with doors. What is the best solution in this case please? Do I need to try to completely relocate the hinge? Do I need a new door? Or is there some other neat way to fix it which will be durable? Thank you!

There are a few ways to fix this without needing a new door or relocating the hinge. First, try using slightly longer screws that can reach fresh timber. If the holes are too damaged, fill them with Liquid Nails and let it cure for 24 hours before reinstalling the screws. I didn’t suggest thicker screws because they usually have larger heads that won’t countersink properly into the hinge, leaving them protruding.

Another option is to pack the holes with slivers of wood, such as matchsticks or cut-down paddle pop sticks, glued in place with Liquid Nails. This provides a solid base for the screws to grip. Moving the hinge is an option, but it’s more work than necessary, as these fixes should make the repair durable.
