How to replace metal bed parts?

I have a pretty white metal bed that I would like to put together but the parts to hold it together were rusted & I threw them out. I cannot remember what the parts even look like , let alone what they are called. The square holes on the wire frame are 14mm & the bolts are 10mm. Hopefully someone can help. Thank you

Welcome to the Bunnings Workshop community. It's sensational to have you join us, and thanks for sharing your question about your metal bed.

I suspect that your bed fixings used a flat bar that allowed you to screw into it to hold the bed frame together. Because you no longer have the original screws, I suggest using Carinya 150 x 125 Zinc Plated Angle Bracket on all four corners in combination with a nut and bolt set. It will be necessary to drill holes in the bed frame to attach the angle brackets along with the nut and bolt set. I propose visiting your local store so that you can see how big the brackets are and what kind of nut and bolt set you'll be needing.

It will be a struggle to find something off the shelf that matches unless you know someone with metal fabrication skills

Have you search the 2nd hand market as that style bed used to be very popular so there may find one you could use the parts for..

Mmmmm Ive had thoughts over the years on how would I join things like this. Its a part that seems to go missing from beds all the time 😕

So how about

Zenith M8 x 125 x 16mm Zinc Plated J Bolt

Plus

Pinnacle M8 Stainless Steel Flat Washer - 12 Pack

and maybe

Macsim 38 x 38 x 3mm M12 Galvanised Square Washer - Each

So the hook goes through the square hole of the rectangular frame, then could you put the large square washer against the end of the rectangular bed frame.

Next step (two ways you could go)

The threaded end of the hook goes through the rectangular frame then the large square washer, through the bed end frame out the other side then a round washer and then the nut.

The threaded end of the hook goes through the rectangular frame, then the large square washer, then a smaller one Plus nut. Another round washer, Then through the bed head, another washer and another nut or two nuts to lock it.

If you cant picture it I can try sketching it tomorrow 🙂

Only think Im worried about is how tight you can do it up to stop the rocking.

Thanks for helping, I have tried some brackets and bolts without having to drill but it didn’t work, thank you anyway

Just had a thought, how about trolling through Second hand places like the salvos or st vincent de paul for beds? If you have a photo of the missing part the people out the back may have bits that are off other beds type deals. Tip shops are another place I would take a wander through for the missing parts.

From memory (which is poor) @kerri11 - there were curved supports that fitted between the vertical posts and bed rails. Then square rods that had holes drilled and threaded were inserted into the rails with 'ends' that predicted the centre - to accept long bolts entering from the back of the posts, through the supports and into the thread. Then tighten.

They were long bolts with countersunk and Allen key (usually 5 mm) heads.

Of course I could be wrong. I've had only one cup of coffee this morning.
