When can I use my new Jumbuck 6-Burner BBQ?

I purchased the Jumbuck 6-Burner Hotplate BBQ the other day which was heavily discounted due to a damaged box.

You get 42 five-star reviews and 28 one-star reviews. I think a lotta one-star reviewers are under the impression the 'black' surface is Teflon. It's not, it's 'paint' as I understand it. There are clear instructions on the hotplate and in the manual to 'burn' it off prior - or attempt to.

I tried 30 minutes with all six burners on low and the plate covered in oil. I made a lotta nice burnt oil smelling smoke - but no paint bubbled or came off.

Nevertheless - now safe to use?

The sixth burner, on the far left of the gas connection, likes to make a faint 'popping' noise around the area indicated.

Heating not affected.

Still safe to use?

The black coating on the hotplate is a factory-applied protective layer that helps prevent rust during storage and transport. While it may wear off over time, it is non-toxic and won’t affect your cooking. Since you’ve followed the recommended process of running the burners on low for 30 minutes and wiping down the surface, your BBQ is ready to use.

As for the faint popping noise from the burner, a small amount of flutter or sound is generally not a concern. However, if the burner blows out while in use, you should shut the BBQ down, check for any obstructions or wind interference, and relight the burners following the manufacturer's instructions.

Last night I tried to fire this up, but there was barely a flame on high.

Full bottle of Propane.

I tried the hose on another full cylinder.

Same problem.

Then I tried the old style connection - and away she went.

Do regulators die - regularly, and suddenly?

Can I get a warranty replacement hose for my Jumbuck from Bunnings - or would I have to bring the BBQ in?

I still have the receipt.

Hi @Noyade

I suggest speaking to the customer service desk and the garden specialist about your BBQ hose and regulator. I believe your new BBQ uses the new LCC27 fitting, it's possible that the gas tank that you have might not be compatible or is of an older design which technically still works with the older POL fitting. I suspect that if you were to try the LCC27 fitting with a more modern bottle, the fitting should work properly, and the gas will flow freely.

Yes, the Jumbuck has the LCC27 fitting - it's seen top left in my photo above.

Yes, it was working fine on the cylinder seen below.

Then a few days ago it just stopped working.

I replaced it a with a POL hose - which works perfectly.

So, I'm wondering can a regulator die overnight?

This is the cylinder - date of manufacture is January 2025.

Are you saying there is an even more modern fitting?

I did speak to an Elgas employee - who was trying to tell me you can extend the 'pin' on the LCC27 for a better fit in the gas cylinder.

Looking at the male end, I can't see how any adjustment is possible?

But the weird thing is, as I said above, it was working fine - then just stopped. 🤔

Unfortunately, there are no repairable parts inside the regulator so if you suspect a fault, it would be best just to replace it. Make sure to tell the customer service team and gardening specialist about its performance before it started to malfunction. Please make sure to bring your docket.

Actually I went today. @EricL

There were a couple of other issues with this BBQ as well.

Unfortunately, I think I spoke to too many staff and should have waited longer for a more positive outcome.

As a result, I instigated Operation Jumbuck - it's safe return and refund.

One positive though - how good are those hand held 'glad wrap' applicators!? Fantastic!
