How to mount 2-3kg on plasterboard when anchors seem to be failing?

Mounting a cordless vacuum on laundry wall, plasterboard, small area unfortunately not able to put on a stud. Tried screw in anchors and the plasterboard or whatever it is just seems too hard.

 so then I tried hollow wall anchors and realised I don't have the 28 dollar setting tool! 

 In our old house, I often used the screw in anchors and they worked...My question is, do the screw in anchors not always work in hollow stud walls? Maybe my technique is wrong? Different types of plasterboard? What are your favourite fixings for light loads like this?

Thank you for your question about mounting to a plasterboard wall in your laundry.

Can you describe the issue you are having with the WallMates? Are they struggling to pull through the plasterboard? Or are they bottoming out and refusing to rotate further?

As you've mentioned, you have used them with great success in your previous home, so I can't imagine it is to do with your technique as there is not much to it.

Are you sure the wall is plasterboard with a cavity? Is it possible you are hitting a stud? Could the wall be brick or block without you realising? Some photos of the wall might help.

If there is a hole in the plasterboard that you can get the hollow wall anchor through, you can get the anchor started by pulling the screw up through the anchor to engage the thread ever so slightly. This can be done with pliers or a flathead screwdriver used as a lever. If you are careful, this can be done before tapping it through the hole in the wall and tightening the screw to fully open up the anchor.
