What window treatment for privacy but no change to view or light?

Hi.

I live in a ground-floor north-facing unit with glorious winter sun and is quite cool in summer.

The entrance to the building is next to my balcony so with my blinds up, all neighbours can see me in my unit quite clearly, and I have to see all of them coming and going unless I close my blinds. As I have a lovely view, don't like feeling closed in, and love the light - I leave the blinds open.

Is there a product that makes no changes to the outward view or brightness but blocks the inward view, giving privacy? I'd love privacy, but I don't want to trade light and view. Any suggestions?

This sounds like a situation where mirror tint film would be perfect. This type of film is applied directly to your windows and creates a mirrored effect on the outside, preventing people from seeing in while allowing you to see out clearly. It’s a popular choice for maintaining privacy during the day without sacrificing too much light or your view.

my understanding is that ‘mirror film’ cuts down on glare and up resulting in a ‘darker’ view out.

I read that ‘Christal’ film is closer to the original view. Any idea if this is correct?

Hello @Deelightful

You are correct, using the Pillar 1.2 x 2.4m Crystal Clear Adhesive Window Film allows you maximum transparency to retain external views. It blocks up to 99% ultraviolet rays, 90% of infrared heat and allows 72% of natural light to flow in. This would be a sound choice to block off the extra heat coming through your window, but if you wish to lessen the glare then getting a darker tint would be the way to go.

Thanks Eric,

I don’t have any issues with glare or heat- just eyeballs 😁. I love my view and the winter sun that comes in is most welcome. As I’m North facing, I don’t have issues with summer sun, and I have an awning for super hot days.

im looking for a window treatment that does nothing but prevent people seeing in. I still want to see out with 100% clarity and no darkened view.
It seems this product does not exist and I’ll have to settle for either crystal or mirror.
