How to fix Matador Ignite installation issue in latest Alfresco Plus?

Dear Team,

We purchased the latest Alfresco Plus Kitchen with a Matador Ignite 4-burner. The Alfresco BBQ module has the airframe.

When we placed the BBQ into the designated location, we noticed that the BBQ does not stand solid, it shifts sideways and the legs twist. It appears that the gaps between the BBQ and the airframe are too wide. There is an infill of some sort missing. In addition, there is no way to affix the BBQ to the BBQ module (the airframe). This all feels very unstable. This cannot be the final fix.

Secondly, there is a huge issue with the electrical cable and gas hose location being right at the front (!) clashing with the fat tray. There is no way to direct the cable and the hose to either side (as there are no holes in the frame) neither side or down as there is the fat tray. How is that good to be installed???? See attached pictures.

Did someone at Bunnings and/or Alfresco plus test the assembly?

Finally, the BBQ hood cannot be fully opened as it clashes with the back wall of the kitchen - the hood in fully opened position sticks out, beyond the rear end of the back of kitchen bench.

Did anyone else encounter that issue?

It would be great to get some advice here. We have already flagged the issue to the Bunnings special order team. But I thought, it would be helpful to let the community know.

thanks for the quick response.

Sure, we won't fire the BBQ up yet - we would not be able to do so as we cannot run the gas hose into the gas bottle cabinet.

We purchased the kitchen at Bunnings Cairns Central in Portsmith in October last year (Order #320552058-1). It took Alfresco until February this year get the kitchen modules built and delivered to the Bunnings Warehouse in Cairns. And then another few weeks for Bunnings to get the BBQ delivered.

Take your time to get to the bottom of the issue. It would just be great to have the kitchen usable before Easter.

Both the store and I have contacted Matador for advice on routing the hose and cabling and why the airframe is not secure. I'll respond as soon as I hear back from them.

Regarding the hood hitting the wall behind, are you able to pull the airframe slightly forward in the kitchen unit to allow it to open fully? You might need to combine moving the BBQ forward on the cabinet and moving the kitchen unit slightly away from the wall to allow for an opening.

There are obviously a few issues going on here, but I look forward to getting this sorted for you.

The airframe is part of the kitchen module (including doors) and lines up on the front with the other elements. Moving this forward would lead to the doors not being aligned with the rest of the kitchen.

Moving the entire kitchen forward would lead to a gap at the rear end (objects can fall behind, etc).

We may need to limit the BBQ Hood opening to restrict it somehow.

Its' weird though as Alfresco and Matador should have worked that out before they started selling the combination.

Let's wait for the feedback from Matador.

I'm sorry, @Neil_k. I misreferenced. I was suggesting shifting the BBQ forward on the cabinet and moving the leg support up to the front of the cabinet.

We can give that a go and see how that works out. The BBQ is just standing very wobbly on the four legs, and I expect it to move back when you open and close the hood. Once we have a solution for how to secure the entire BBQ (side fixing or else) I think that your idea might work.

The Ignite series BBQ's are compatible with the Gas Level Reader. Linda in the Special Orders department at Bunnings Cairns Central will be able to order that for you.

Hi Mitchell,

just a quick update.

I have been in touch with Alfresco Plus (Jon Gumley - Business Manager), who was really helpful explaining the reasons for the issues, and offering solutions. Really great support!

Cable issue sorted (we will receive an expansion cable from Matador to run the cable into the desired location. Gas hose issue sorted, we need to detach the hose from the manifold, drill a whole outside the great pan tracks and then feed the hose and refit.

As to the opening angle go the hood (clash with wall), we will receive some stoppers which are thicker and firmer. This will limit the hood opening.

I have also been in touch with Ted/Kevin from Mayo Hardware (Matador manufacturer) who is currently assessing the videos and pictures I sent regarding the swaying BBQ. They will come back to me with a feedback once setup a test BBQ.

All under control.

update:

Unfortunately, the proposed solution (running the gas hose and electrical cable in a certain way - advised by the BBQ Manufacturer) does not work. There is physically now way to get the hose running outside the legs to have space for the grease tray - same for the electrical cable......

See attached photos.

Maybe get a built-in Matador Inginte+ and take a look for yourself - and try to install it just on a flat bench - insert the grease tray and see what happens.

We have again contacted Jon (Alfresco) and the BBQ manufacturer to seek for further advice.....

Really frustrating as we still cannot use the kitchen/BBQ....

Just an interested observer @Neil_k

I must admit to be somewhat disorientated by some of the photos - but to my eyes that 'edge' of the fat tray is rubbing against the gas hose. I'm assuming the tray moves towards the camera?

To me - drilling and rerouting the hose to enter from the left - is potentially turning the fat tray edge into a 'saw' based on the rigid connection.

I can't believe the manufacturer suggests drilling holes where holes do not exist or were never intended?

Hi Jacob,

we received a call from the BBQ supplier on Friday with 'some options' on how to run the gas hose and the electrical cable. Unfortunately, one option does not work with the Alfresco Plus Air Frame setup, the other is a work around which we don't deem to be a long lasting solution (using cable ties to keep the corrugated gas hose away form the sliding grease tray.

To be perfectly honest, I cannot believe that the BBQ has ever been tested and installed in an Alfresco Plus Kitchen- shame for Alfresco as the kitchen is just perfect! The issue here is the BBQ, not the kitchen.

So, here we are, the BBQ is still swaying side ways (the recommended fix does not do anything), the gas hose is still clashing with the grease tray, and the electrical cable can be re-routed using the offered extension lead.

But again, do we really need to make all those customisations - being an off the shelf product combination????

In addition, the screws are really bad quality, once screwed in you can't take them off - screw head is worn out, the cable of the front display is dropping down, into the path of the grease tray....... not a good quality and manufacturing.

I strongly recommend you guys test the setup and see for yourself the issues before Alfresco Plus is offering the combo.

We will likely need to look into replacement options - shame that we may need to pay more money though. I hope Bunnings will help us fining a suitable alternative.

Thanks so much for raising this with us. I just wanted to sincerely apologise for the confusion caused—there was an oversight in the manual included with your Matador BBQ.

To clarify, the gas line is designed to be routed out under the right-hand side of the chassis, down the leg, then back under the fat tray and through a port in the Alfresco kitchen. Matador are currently updating the instructions to reflect this routing clearly, and these revised guides will be included in all future products. They are also producing some images which I can share here when done.

In the meantime, we’d be more than happy to provide you with steel cable ties to assist with securing the gas line safely in place to the leg.

Just an update to the discussion @Neil_k and @britt_craig. Here are the instructions for routing the gas line. Please let us know if you like us to arrange metal cable ties for pickup at your nearest store.

In addition, if anyone has an issue with the position of the electrical 12V cable Matador has an extension piece that can assist. Please contact the Mayo Hardware customer service team at customerservice@mayohardware.com.au and they will send you one free of charge. The part number you should ask for is GB1020.
