How to finish an end on a wall wrapped in VJ panels?

Hello. I have been reading other posts about how to finish a corner, such as:

... for my wall its quite thin (see images), and just seems like using one profile of a VJ isn't going to work.

It's a stud of 70mm, plus plaster sheeting so around 92/94mm wide. The VJ profile is around 92mm, but then slopes to the sides for the 100mm, so getting a square edge isn't going to happen, it will be rounded-looking corners.

I want to avoid a join in the middle of the wall end, so trying to think of a way to finish the ends. Ideally I'd be doing a mitre join, and filling the gap, like this corner: https://www.instagram.com/jbrookplaster/p/CKxZgYLFkyD/

Any other ideas for finishing the ends? Maybe one of these products (small) but I don't know if Bunnings stocks them. Maybe a piece of timber, but don't know if that will look weird

Hello @JamesG

Have you considered installing timber moulding at the end to artificially increase thickness of the wall at the end. You can then paint the wood in your preferred colour and push the EasyVJ panels straight onto the moulding. I've placed an image below to give you an idea of what it can look like.

Thanks Eric. That's a good idea. I suppose it would look neater if the timber end was short and the board sat over the top, and then do a mitre edge. Any idea what timber is best suited to this, considering the VJ panel is ~9mm thick? Cheers.

I alays find it interesting when we have a project that is all worked out in our heads and then "bump" we run into something like your question 🙂

I was thinking of maybe finishing that sqare end as a normal plaster corner, painted whatever colour your VJ paneling will be or maybe even pure white to show the step? You would need to put an edge on the VJ panneling is all but that could be some timber trim.

I also like @EricL 's suggestion of timber moulding 🙂 Id make the wall end a feature if possible.

DAR pine would likely be the best choice, but some adjustment would be needed to suit the exact width.

You might like to check out @ProjectPete's wonderful project: Recessed TV feature wall with Easy VJ panels.

He offers some excellent advice on getting a great finish to the corners: "So an alternative is to us a 20x12x1.4mm length of aluminium angle trim. Gives you a perfectly straight line finish and covers the join/gap to hide any potential future cracking/movement. Spray it with Etch Primer first, stick it with Selleys Hold Up and paint it the same colour as your VJ."

Hi @JamesG

Would you get away with using 90mm Merbau as an end cap and paint? Otherwise you have the DAR pine suggestion by @MitchellMc but you will have to rip it down to width.

One idea might be worth considering and probably the way I would go is to head to a reclaimed timber yard and get a nice piece of wood ripped and thicknesses exactly to size and then stain/oil it as a feature end cap to tie in with your floorboards. Its saves the extra work in trying to blend something to match and instead make it deliberately different.
