What level to choose?

Hello brains trust

I’m going to be hanging some picture frames and I’ve finally realised there’s a much easier way to get them level by buying a laser level tool.

Thing is there’s a million of them out there but I don’t need some professional expensive one, but I don’t know anything about them.

Could someone recommend a cheap simple one to hang a couple of frames level. I need to hang a couple of frames either side of a newly built TV entertainment spot at my Mother in Laws.

Will I need one that requires a tripod , if so will a camera tripod fit them? Or will a cheap one with a bubble level suffice?

I suggest looking at the Ozito 10m Range Cross Line Laser. It's an excellent beginner's laser level; it does both vertical and horizontal lines. It's self-levelling and can be attached to a camera tripod or a tall A frame ladder. Remember that it is for indoor use only and has a maximum range of 10meters. Please note that the brightness of the room also affects the visibility of the laser line. Please make sure that the room is not overly bright.

Sorry @philt - for me, I would be using a long spirit level with a straight edge - and mark the level sides with painters tape (as opposed to drawing with a pencil). Then using something like a 'Hang and Level' device perfectly position the point of the nail/screw/hook/anchors, so the tops of the paintings are in perfect harmony.

Just an afternoon thought.

Thanks Eric it sounds fine but I’m wondering if it does vertical plumb lines too? I’m just also curious what you think about the Lasertec $95 one, I’m thinking it will be better because it’s a green line.

The Lasertec CX2G Crossline Laser is a better laser level as it can be used for outdoors and if you prefer green lasers then its a definite win. In regards to your question yes it does both vertical and horizontal lines. But if you are looking to level up, I suggest having a look at the Ryobi 15m Green Cross Line Laser or the Ryobi 25m 360° Green Line Laser. Aside from the green laser colour, they have longer projection distances from 15 to 25m for the more upmarket unit. Plus, these units have the best reviews posted by customers who have purchased and used them for their projects.
