How to fix dropped slats on metal gate?

Some friends of mine climbed my gate when leaving my house (I couldn't find the remote)

One of the slats dropped and now I can't figure out how to fix it. I've tried killing it up but it just won't budge.

Has anyone faced this issue before and know how to fix it?

I'm thinking of running a rope over the top and under the affected slat and the. Tensioning it up.

Other than that I'm at a loss. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

mmmm I remember looking at that styled gayte and think there are plastic segmants you can buy Jack 10mm Screen Up Slimline Spacers - 48 Pack (if you take a photo up close you can then check in store)

Or easier thought would be to use a piece of timber as a spacer and paint it black before inserting it with some silastic styled glue.

I would also like to say welcome to the bunnings community pages 🙂 And yeah we all have had mates climb over our fences lol I remember doing the same and puuting my foot through a milkcrate.... yeah ouch was the word 😲

That's a good tip so I might have to saw off this screw that's in the way first.

It just boggles my mind how the skate dropped below the screw?. There's seems to be no flex or slack in the slats to allow it to move laterally enough.

It's great that you've received excellent advice from @Dave-1. I totally agree with Dave-1's repair suggestion. It would be the fastest way to repair the timber slat. My best advice should you decide to use a timber spacer is to make sure that it is totally painted all the way around top to bottom so that its weatherproof.

I would think that someones body weight being push against one slat, say with a foot as they exert themselves climbing over may be enough to flex it out of true, once the pressure has gone it would want to spring back into whatever is its resting place. It would be nice to try it again but would think there is a fair chance of breaking the actual slat.

To my eyes the screw was doing very little before this happened - you can even make out the thread 'teeth' indentations on the hollow metal as the slat passed by.

My thought is a car jack on the concrete close to the gate with an appropriately sized piece of wood with the edge just under the collapsed slat.

Start jacking and watch closely.

If successful - your gonna needs spacers as per @Dave-1 and @EricL .

I was also thinking of the Stanley lifter - but there is a chance it may only dislodge the slat below it.
