Painting the cabinetry and installing a new benchtop and cooktop transformed a kitchen on a modest budget.
The project
Had an old-fashioned kitchen in a terrible colour. We called it the clown kitchen! So we painted all the cabinets with laminate paint, and installed new benchtop and cooktop.
Steps
Step 1
Took all cabinet doors off and lightly sanded them. Painted them with primer, waited 24 hours, and then painted with paint. After another 24 hours, added another coat. Same again with two coats of sealant.
Waited 72 hours, then turned and did the other sides. Did the same with the frame of the cabinets.
Next, levered the old bench off. Laid sealant and placed the new bench on top. Waited 24 hours then used the jigsaw to cut the sink and cooktop hole out. Installed them, then sealed around with clear sealant.
Step 2
Drilled new holes in the cabinet doors to match the new handles. Added handles and installed.
Step 3
