How to enclose slatted fence?

Hi, we have moved into a house that has a slatted gate as pictured and i need to somehow fill the gaps without it looking terrible so my dog cannot see out of it and bark at people. is there a insert of some kind that i can but to put in between the slats the gate doesnt seem to have bolts or screws, just holes ( i think they are big rivets holding it together) so i cant really pull it apart and remove the spacers for the slats. Thanks

Hi @Gezza87,

I'd be surprised if we could find something to perfectly fit between the slats without any customisation, but if you can provide some dimensions, I could certainly have a look.

Are you able to screw into the fence at all?

If so, you could screw something like an acrylic sheet to the back of the gate.

If it is a rental property and this wasn't an option, then you could use something like bamboo screening and attach it to the gate with zip ties.

I think this black flute board would be a great stylish and cheap solution. It's weatherproof and can be easily screwed with black button head screws to the back of the gate. The black in-between the slates I think would look nice too.

Late to arrive again and @Nailbag pinched my flute board suggestion 😀

You may want to consider good quality black cable ties.

With assistance get them to align the board at the front while you (at the back) can mark the hole locations with a Texta and then drill the holes. With the assistant at the front holding the board in place (you at the back) poke the cable tie through top hole and they push it back though the bottom hole.

I have successfully (well most of the time) used Velcro for outdoor projects.

Mailbox Delivery System

That is a Bunnings Sandleford mailbox and next to that is the control box (discarded Telecom box)

When mail is pushed through the flap door a wi-fi switch triggers Alexa routines to send me a mail delivery announcement and trigger the wi-fi water valve (servo actuator) to raise the mail flag.

Wi-Fi contact sensor (door/window).

Gate Alarm.

When someone opens the gate Alexa will announce 'Warning... Someone opened the front gate' and repeat several times.

The Velcro has held for a couple of years.

For winter I cover the mesh areas with poly roof sheets secured with Velcro.

Just a thought - toss an old blanket/sheet/cardboard over the gate and experiment with the "line of sight = barking" theory.

I suspect your dog will still bark despite being blind to the outside environment?

Our dog will bark at anybody or anything passing by who he considers a threat. And he can't see due to fence/walls.
